This two-year Ontario College Diploma program prepares students to become fully qualified legal assistants who are able to work in a legal or general office environment.
The program is divided into four levels. The first two levels are the Office Administration - General, Ontario College Certificate program (0210X01FWO). Levels 03 and 04 are designed to give students extensive knowledge and skills in the areas of wills and estates, litigation, real estate, family law, intellectual property and corporate law. Students study legal and business concepts, learn general legal office procedures, and use specialized legal software to prepare and format documentation. Emphasis is placed on the practical demands of the job, as well as confidentiality, professional ethics and meeting deadlines. Students participate in office simulations where they deal with realistic situations and develop high-level word processing, presentation, Internet, email, database and spreadsheet skills in a network environment.
These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
