Description: The University of Victoria offers a five-year program in elementary teacher education at the College of the Rockies. This program leads to a Bachelor of Education degree (Elementary Curriculum) and to teacher certification.

The post-degree professional program commences with course work on-campus at the University of Victoria during July and August. This is followed by additional course work in Cranbrook during the fall term (September through December) and a 16-week school experience from January through April in the Southeast Kootenay or Rocky Mountain School District. The offering of this program option is contingent upon the number of qualified applicants who apply for a position in the program.

On successful completion of the program students may apply to the BC College of Teachers for certification.

Admission Requirements
Prerequisites:

A. COTR Admission - Pre-Education Courses (year one & two) - refer to the college calendar for application procedures into University Studies Programs. (Only required if you wish to enroll in one or more prerequisite courses).

B. UVic Admission -- Year Three of the Elementary Professional Degree Program. To be considered for entry to this program you must have: 60 credits, 30 UVic units, of approved course work by April 30th of the year of application; demonstrated competency in written English; 6 credits (3 UVic units) of approved mathematics with a minimum grade point average of C+ (UVic 65%) completed within the last 10 years; a sessional grade point average of at least 4.00 on UVic's 9-point scale (UVic B- or 69%) on the most recent session and, if that session is less than 24 credits (12 UVic units), a grade point average of at least 4.00 on a cumulative total of the most recent 24 credits (12 UVic units); submission of the applicable application forms, fees, and transcripts, including courses in progress, by January 31. Final transcripts for courses taken in the January semester must be submitted to UVic no later than May 31.

You must submit the University of Victoria's Undergraduate Application form and the Faculty of Education's Elementary Programs Application form no later than January 31. These applications are available from the Faculty of Education's website at www.educ.uvic.ca in mid-October. If you have difficulty accessing the applications, telephone the Faculty of Education Advising Centre at (250) 721-7877 for assistance.

Official transcripts showing completion of pre-education courses must be submitted. If the transcripts are from an institution outside British Columbia or are more than 10 years old, a complete institution calendar for the relevant years will be required for transfer credit evaluation.
