Description: The Faculty of Health Sciences, in collaboration with Durham College, offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Honours). The Faculty's mission is to prepare professional nurses to fill the demand for qualified nurses and to develop and transmit knowledge regarding nursing practice and the human experience of health, illness and healing.

The concept of caring is central to the nursing program and builds the foundation for excellence in clinical practice. The curriculum is grounded in the natural sciences and fosters the development of communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills. Collaborative learning activities are combined with traditional methods to prepare students for life-long learning, research, teamwork, and leadership skills essential for nursing practice.

Admission Requirements
Grade for Entrance Previous Year (%)*: 70 to 100

  • Grade 12 English
  • Grade 12 Chemistry
  • Grade 12 Biology
  • Grade 12 Mathematics of Data Management or Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors or Grade 12 Advanced Functions
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or mature student status with a minimum overall average of 70 per cent on six 4U or 4M credits including English (ENG4U with a minimum 60 per cent), Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U) and one of Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) or Mathematics of Data Management (MDM4U). program. Proof of annual recertification must be provided in order to meet the contractual aggreement with the practicum agencies and is a practicum requirement. It is highly recommended that certification be completed prior to entering the program.
