| Description: |
Diaspora studies focus on issues of identity critical to the multi-ethnic and multicultural nature of western countries. Diasporas exist for groups of people that share a collective memory of forced dispersion and emigration from an ancestral homeland, resettlement in many countries, and a deep longing to maintain connection to their homeland and culture. Most immigrant communities enclose diasporic identities and the Jewish, Armenian, Ukrainian, African, and Irish diasporas are very well known.
