The Urban and Regional Planning Technician - Geographic Information Systems is a two-year diploma program that provides specialized training in the following areas: land use planning principles; planning law, process, and documentation; geographic information systems (GIS) applications; subdivision design and development; site planning and design; CAD drafting and presentation graphics; official plans and zoning bylaws; planning reports and public presentations.
Through a three-week field internship in a planning-related position during fourth semester, students will experience the working world of urban and regional planning. Graduates may find careers in public and private sectors, engineering consulting, land development companies, and real estate and utility companies. Graduates can also complete a Bachelors degree at Ryerson University. Affiliations include the Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technologists (CACPT).
