Geography is a diverse discipline, encompassing the study of spatial organization, environmental change and regional models in both human and natural systems. Geographers employ theories and techniques from the social and natural sciences as well as emerging information technologies.
The Department of Geography hosts a GIS/remote sensing lab for teaching and student projects, as well as dedicated research and graduate student areas - all containing high-end computers. The Department has licenses for a wide range of software, including ESRI (ArcInfo, ArcView, Arc GIS), MapInfo, Vertical Mapper, and image analysis Software (ENVI and PCI). Facilities also include a large bed digitiser and a full-size (40-inch) colour plotter.
