| Description: |
Social workers aim to improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities in an increasingly complex society. Our program prepares students for professional registration in the Ontario College of Social Workers and elsewhere. The first two years of this combined program include introductory courses in social work, women's studies, and the social sciences. Students are required to complete twenty courses prior to admission to year three. During the final two years, the focus shifts to social work practice and includes concurrent field interships in a range of field settings. At least one of these organizations will be specifically committed to advancing the interests and needs and issues of identity critical to the multi-ethnic nature of western countries.
Graduates may find careers in community agencies; hospitals; correctional services; schools; substance abuse counselling; children's aid societies; residential centres; working with persons who are disadvantaged, troubled, homeless, or disabled; social planning bodies; and advocacy associations.
