Religious Studies and Philosophy grapple with questions of human existence and meaning. What is the purpose of life? What factors influence assessment of meaning and value? What are our personal and communal responsibilities in light of the need for social justice? Courses in Philosophy and Religious Studies at Brescia University College encourage critical thinking and provide the opportunity to explore a variety of religious traditions and philosophic systems. Studies of scripture, women and religion, current religious and theological trends, and the dialogue between Christianity and Islam expand an understanding of how religion has helped shape contemporary thought and culture.
Courses which survey philosophical problems and which examine techniques of moral analysis and evaluation acquaint students with the history of philosophy and improve their ability to reason logically and clearly. Students in either discipline can graduate with a four-year Combined Honors B. A. or a three-year B. A. with an Area of Concentration. Courses may also be taken as options in other programs.
