| Description: |
Courses emphasize both traditionally recognized ‘Great Works,’ and new areas of study including world literatures, children’s literature, and detective fiction as they examine how we use language to respond imaginatively to our experiences. The curriculum offers courses in the English-language literatures of Britain, Canada, America, and other areas of the world, as well as providing large investigations of culture. All courses place emphasis on close responsive reading, critical thinking, and clarity of expression.
Students may wish to take courses as a part of a general education, in anticipation of the usefulness of certain courses in future occupations or professions, or as part of a Specialist or Major Program.
