The Certificate in Arts and Science is a non-degree program that caters particularly to students who are not willing to or cannot make the long-term commitment to a regular or extended degree program. However, these students still want to learn and to continue their education in a structured manner, based on university courses which would be applicable to university programs. The Certificate in Arts and Science is one way to complete 30 credits of courses and to receive a certificate which attests to your proficiency in these courses. It is also a way to try out whether you would be interested in a specific field or that you are comfortable with courses at the university level. Some of these credits may be transferred to your undergraduate degree, should you then decide to complete one.
This certificate is not equivalent to an “undeclared major” program offered in some institutions. Once you have been accepted to the Certificate in Arts and Science, you will have to re-apply to the Faculty of Arts and Science and the University if you intend to complete a degree program.
These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
