Do you think that optimal health and fitness are essential for everyone? Do you want to play an active role in helping individuals make healthy choices towards a better quality of life? The Department of Exercise Science is committed to teaching and research in the areas of exercise, health, and physical activity with an emphasis on the specialty areas of athletic therapy and clinical exercise physiology. The curriculum permits students to explore the scientific processes that occur when healthy individuals and those with a variety of impairments, disabilities, and disease states engage in activities that promote the healthiest possible lifestyle. Through lectures, laboratory instruction and internship experiences, students acquire the knowledge and skills to assess, evaluate and design the most appropriate exercise programs to rehabilitate, improve or maintain the health and functional performance of people ranging from those with chronic disease conditions to elite athletes.
This Honours program builds upon the Major by adding a research component. Students develop essential knowledge and skills to conduct innovative and cutting-edge research in collaboration with a faculty member. Students study the theoretical and ethical basis of research and are provided with a number of practical courses to develop hands-on research techniques.
