Description: Students in Sexuality Studies at York will delve into one of the most important and fundamental areas of social, cultural and political life. You’ll explore themes such as abortion, birth control, pornography, sex tourism, sex work, sexual health and disease, sexual politics, sexual rights and citizenship and sexual violence.

You’ll become part of a large and exciting community of scholars, teachers, writers, artists and activists who are producing new ways of thinking about sex, gender and sexuality. In class, in seminars and in your written work, you’ll discuss and research sexuality within transnational and global contexts, and examine sexuality in relation to ability, age, class, gender, ethnicity, race, religion and other categories of difference, identity and power.

Students in Sexuality Studies can choose from more than 50 courses from various academic areas and take discipline-based courses in fields such as anthropology, geography, history, literature, philosophy, political science, and sociology. Explore further with interdisciplinary courses that use diverse theories and methods derived from the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, fine arts and professional studies. Courses, seminars, lectures and special events address lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, intersex, heterosexual and heteronormative topics.
