| Description: |
Archaeology is the study of human life and activities in past cultures through examination of material remains. These remains, including objects and structures, are excavated from sites where people lived and worked in the past. Archaeology seeks to reconstruct events of the past, processes leading to their development, their meaning for individual cultures and general human development, and the consequences of those events on human culture.
Students contemplating graduate work or similar further studies, or who hope to undertake projects in or related to Archaeology that require greater responsibility (e.g. directing field excavation, working as a curator in a museum), are recommended to complete an Honours Degree.
The Department of Archaeology offers the choice of earning a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science in Archaeology as well as the option of completing a concentration in Physical Anthropology.
