| Description: |
Labour Studies is the study of labour movements, labour relations, working conditions, and workers’ rights. This programme will help you to understand how and why the labour movement developed in Canada and internationally, how and why work is organized in certain ways, and how and why the labour movement has had certain impacts on the social history and development of workers. In taking this program, you will come to understand the history of this country from a very different perspective than the one normally taught in high school. You will also deal extensively with the current issues and problems facing the labour movement and other social movements.
The courses encompass a wide variety of work-related and social justice issues including: Labour/management relations labour law; Collective bargaining, unemployment; Globalization, economic restructuring; Industrial and economic development, technological change; Occupational health and safety, work stress; Environmental pollution; Pay and employment equity; Poverty, welfare Sexual and racial discrimination, sexual harassment; Human rights.
