American/United States Studies/Civilization
|
| Description: |
American Studies is an interdisciplinary program. It offers the student an opportunity to explore not only the history but also the literature, music, economy, art, and government of the United States. The program enables the student to gain a panoramic view of America as a nation and as a civilization, its place in history, and its impact on the world.
A study of American civilization is of value not only for the general development of the student's mind but as a necessary part of the intellectual development of an educated person in the modern world. American Studies' broad approach also provides a base for a career in business or the professions, including teaching, law, and media. Considering Canada's relationship with its southern neighbor, a knowledge of America is vital to Canada's interests.
