Student life has its up and downs, however, there are so many different ways to make the most of your time as a student. Here are a few tips on how to maximize your time as a student and enjoy the Canadian experience!

Explore your town or city! Each town has its own unique festivals and local traditions. Many cities also connect easily with others, which makes them even more accessible to you. The Region of Waterloo, which is home to the University of Waterloo, is made up of 3 different cities, each with their own unique offerings to experience.

Another way to experience Canada is by travelling across the country, and why not work while you’re at it? Cooperative education (co-op) is one of the best ways for gaining work experience for future career success. Co-op enables you to work in different cities all across the country while pursuing your degree. Many Canadian universities offer a co-op program, with the University of Waterloo being one of the largest with 80+ co-op programs.

Joining sports and extracurriculars on campus is another great way to maximize your experience. It allows you to meet students in different faculties and make new friends while doing something you enjoy. Many of these clubs also run amazing events across campus. Fashion for Change at the University of Waterloo runs an annual charity fashion show. They put a modern twist on fashion while incorporating dance into their fashion scenes. All of their proceeds help with WE Charity’s “We Village” campaign.

At the end of the day, students in Canada have many ways to make the most of their experience. However, these are only a few things you can do, the possibilities are endless!
