On her first day at the college, Bitna felt welcomed. “The volunteers' positive interaction with new international students was impressive. I wanted to give back that welcoming experience to other international students”, she said. “Six months later, I joined the volunteer team and since then I have been helping and welcoming new international students to Conestoga in the same way I was welcomed.”

"Some of the advantages of volunteering were improving my English-speaking skills and learning about Canadian culture. Even though we are all from different countries, we share a similar journey in Canada, providing support and encouragement to each other. Just like a new international family!”

At Conestoga, there are many opportunities for students to get engaged, have fun and to improve important skills at the same time! Here are the top three places that you should visit as soon as you start your college life:

  • Visit the International Office where you can attend events and get the support you need to adapt to your new life in Canada. Students often engage as volunteers to welcome brand-new students on International Orientation Day.

  • Visit the Student Engagement office on campus where you can connect with other students for meaningful opportunities to enhance your classroom experience, apply your learning, explore your potential, and develop both personally and professionally!

  • Log on to your Co-Curricular Portal (CCP)Co-Curricular Portal (CCP) to access more than 400 opportunities each year including volunteer positions, workshops and training, recreation, conferences, clubs and committees.

"Engage with the college community and take time to explore
some of the many opportunities you'll find here to develop both personally
and professionally as you prepare for your successful future."
