To dorm or not to dorm? That is the question... for students entering college. To those considering investing in twinkle lights or a mini-fridge, packing up their earthly possessions, and moving onto a college campus sometime in the near future: we're excited for you!

Here are three reasons why life on campus can be one of the most important parts of your college experience.

Proximal is optimal
Nobody's denying the urge to escape campus as soon as your last class ends, but hear us out: proximity has huge advantages. In an era of hour-long bus rides and inconvenient carpools, nothing can beat living beside the academic complex. With a daily commute of virtually 0 kilometers, your morning coffee — and your hands — will stay warm and toasty. Spend that extra time perfecting your paper, studying for your quiz, or, let's be honest, sleeping.

As a bonus: Your dorm room can become an on-site hangout spot for your commuter friends, or a quiet hideaway in the middle of stressful days. Plus, forgotten books, snacks, a working printer, and a quick 13-minute nap are all within walking distance. Welcome home.

The greenhouse effect
Environment is important. Like a greenhouse designed to maximize a plant's growth, campus can provide the right conditions to help you grow as a student and as a human being. It's a simple concept: being in the right physical place can help you stay in the right mental space. Whether you're trying to finish your degree in four years, stay close to the gym, or make important connections in your field, living on campus can help you achieve your goals.

The right campus can — and should — help you grow personally, socially, spiritually, and intellectually. Choosing to live in this environment will help you take advantage of all campus has to offer.

Community building
In dorm (video), shared spaces and experiences forge solidarity. Pulling all-nighters in the common lounge or sharing sink space in the bathroom can really bring people together. With this much in common already, there is huge potential for good on-campus community. We know: the roommate situation can be a bit of a gamble. But learning to live with people well — sharing, stressing, studying, and celebrating together — can lead to lifelong friendships and meaningful support during the school year. In the immortal words of High School Musical, "We're all in this together."

The choice to live in a solid on-campus community can make all the difference in your college experience. Choose wisely, and get ready for the time of your life!
