Finishing your secondary school career and heading off to university can be a daunting task. Finishing your secondary school career, and attending university in a foreign country can be downright scary! Here are some tips and tricks that will help you get adjusted to your new surroundings, and make your International experience awesome!

Mentorship Programs:
The International Initiatives Office at Nipissing University is proud to offer the International Student Mentorship program to all of our incoming International students. The program is designed to help International students make a smooth transition to life in Canada. Student Mentors organize events on-campus and in the community throughout the school year. These events are a great way to meet other International students, learn more about your new “home,” and make lasting memories! The student mentors are available throughout the year to answer any questions that might arise during your time in Canada.

Clubs or Teams:
Joining a club, or an intramural sports team is a great way to meet new people with similar interests. Nipissing University students have created a number of clubs covering a range of interests: academic clubs, charitable groups, general interest groups, the list goes on and on! Intramural sports are played on campus, generally after most classes have finished. They are a great way to get involved and stay active during the school year!

Stay Connected:
Social media is a great way to get connected to the community. Oftentimes, community groups will post upcoming events on social media outlets. This is a great way to get a feel for what is happening around you and make connections off-campus. If Social media isn’t your thing, keep your eye on the bulletin boards across campus. The boards are often chock-full of posters advertising different clubs, groups and events happening on and off campus.
