In an effort to support students during the COVID-19 pandemic, the province of Manitoba has announced an expansion to its scholarship and bursary funding program.

Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative

Manitoba will now be matching, dollar-for-dollar, money raised by colleges and universities for scholarships and bursaries.

Previously, the province chipped in a dollar for every two raised for these awards. Now, Manitoba is doubling its spending for students. The change will make more money available to students facing challenges due to COVID-19.

The Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative will get a boost in this year's budget, from $10 million to $15 million.

The province's goal is to make scholarships and bursaries available to those who need them. The changes will make alumni and corporate donations more attractive, and support Manitoba students.

Student loans and summer jobs

In addition to a delay in provincial student loan payments until September, the province has also launched a student summer job subsidy. The subsidy will cover $7 per hour for student employment over the summer.

We'll bring you more details on these programs as they become available. What's clear is now's a great time to consider school in Manitoba!
