Exploring study abroad options virtually with Mount Royal University.

New students, especially students who plan to study abroad, may be uncertain of what university life will be like. You can take this time to get to know the universities you are considering.

Mount Royal University's social networking expert Karen Richards says exploring a university's social media channels and online resources can provide future students with a feeling of campus life, even if we can't be together in person.

"Social media reflects the personality of a university," says Richards. "It can help you determine the culture, learn about the campus and city, and become familiar with popular topics among students."

A university's social media accounts will also give you a sense of a year in the life of a student — from the first day of a semester through to exams and eventually graduation. You can get a sense of the types of activities you can get involved in throughout the year, and where you might seek help if you encounter challenges along the way.

Richards suggests connecting with university accounts, including student services, early. "Don't be afraid to ask questions online," she says. "It's a great way to connect with a university while you're exploring your study options."
