Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship Program

If you're an international student considering the University of Toronto, and you've got incredible academic chops, you should check out the Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship program.

This is the University of Toronto's most prestigious scholarship for international students. Only the best and brightest will be among the 37 winners of this year's program.

The scholarship program covers your tuition, books, ancillary fees, and even residence support, for the full four years of your degree at the University of Toronto. It doesn't get much better than that!

Eligibility

This generous award isn't easy to get. There's a lot of competition from students abroad, and also from international students in Canadian high schools. To win, you've really got to stand out.

The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship committee is looking for an applicant with strong critical thinking skills and a demonstrated history of committment to your school and community. If you've got big ideas and plans for the world, you're the sort of person U of T is after.

You also need a proven track record of academic achievement. This means good grades! If you're an A student in every subject from Algebra to Physical Education, you're probably a good fit. You also need to be enthusiastic about learning, with an unfailing intellectual curiosity about the world.

Not only all that, but you also need to be a leader in your school or community. Maybe you're captain of a cricket team, or you've started up a local initiative around sustainability. If you're the type of person others look to for guidance, inspiration, and leadership, you could be a good fit for a Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship.

How to apply

There's one hitch to your application: you need to be nominated!

Some high schools in Canada and around the world are already aware of this program. If yours isn't one of them, check out this link to get on board.

A guidance counsellor or teacher must nominate you for a Lester B. Pearson Scholarship before November 30, 2020! You'll have to apply for a spot in one of the University of Toronto's 700 programs in humanities, social sciences, life sciences, physical & mathematical sciences, commerce & management, computer science, engineering, kinesiology & physical education, music, or architecture, with a start date of fall 2021. Your application will be judged on the basis of your first choice program, so think carefully!

Once U of T has your nomination, you'll need to apply for the scholarship by the deadline, January 18, 2021.

Please be aware that nominations can come only from your current high school / secondary school: U of T doesn't accept nominations from educational agencies or recruiters. If you're not sure who can nominate you, send an email to pearson.scholarship@utoronto.ca for more info.
