Western University has many great scholarship and work opportunities for you.

Exploring which university is the right place for you is an exciting and important decision! You have your short-list of places to apply that offer a program you're interested in, but now you're wondering more about finances.

Western University awards approximately $7.5 million CAD per academic year in awards for undergraduate students. With a variety of scholarships and work opportunities available for international students, we encourage you to discover what Western has to offer.

1. International President's Entrance Scholarship

Western University is looking for three International President's Entrance Scholars. Could that be you?

This award is part of our National Scholarship Program, which recognizes all-round excellence — outstanding academic performance, achievement in extracurricular activities and commitment to community service. If this describes you, then we encourage you to apply!

This $50,000 award is made in instalments: $20,000 in year one for tuition and residence, with $10,000 each subsequent year.

First step: apply to Western on the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC).

Second step: Complete the scholarship application, which opens in mid-November. This includes submitting your supplemental application, essay and school nomination.

Deadline to apply: February 14, 2021

2. Western's Admission Scholarships

To recognize and reward the outstanding academic achievements of our incoming high school students, Western offers the Admissions Scholarship Program. The great thing about these scholarships is that no separate application is required. You are automatically considered when you apply to Western.

Western offers the following admission scholarships:

  • Western Scholarship of Excellence: 250 scholarships at $8,000 each ($6,000 in first year, plus $2,000 for an optional study abroad experience) awarded to students with top high school admission averages.
  • Western Scholarship of Distinction: $3,500 each ($2,500 in first year, plus $1,000 for optional study abroad experience) awarded to students with a final admission average of 92.0% to 100.0%.
  • Western Admission Scholarship: $2,500 each ($1,500 in first year, plus $1,000 for optional study abroad experience) awarded to students with a final admission average of 90.0% to 91.9%.

Western will determine averages for applicants who are not studying in a Canadian secondary school curriculum based on curriculum, grading practices and grading scale interpretation.

3. Work on campus while you study

Are you looking to get a part-time job while you study? Western can help with your job search, resume and cover letter writing and help you understand work regulations for international students.

We have an International Student Work Opportunities Program (ISWOP), which is a work-study program for international undergraduate students designed to provide financial assistance through paid part-time employment on-campus.

The program provides international undergraduate students with the opportunity to gain and enhance skills, obtain work experience in a Canadian context, engage with the campus community and enhance their experience of studying and living in Canada.

Western is committed to helping you explore your options and making sure you find the right university for you! If you have any questions you can always reach us at international@uwo.ca.
