Welcome Back: Fully-Vaccinated Travellers Can Now Visit Canada Without Quarantine
The fourteen-day quarantine period has been removed for travellers from abroad who have been fully vaccinated.
We've walked a long road to get here, but we've finally made it: fully-vaccinated visitors may now come to Canada, without requiring a fourteen-day quarantine!
The Canadian government made the change this week, reversing a year-long policy restricting folks from abroad from visiting Canada.
Travellers must be fully vaccinated and test negative for COVID-19
Canada's still battling our fourth wave of the pandemic, but we're welcoming foreign travellers back to our shores. Case counts and hospitalizations have been stable enough that it's safe to open up our borders once again.
Not just anyone can travel to Canada without preparation, though. Anyone coming to Canada must present proof of full vaccination — which means at least two weeks have passed since a person's final vaccine dose — and will also have to produce a negative test for COVID-19. The test must have been taken within the previous 72 hours.
Safe to welcome travellers, but some concerns remain
Canada is only welcoming visitors from abroad because the federal government considers conditions safe for both travellers and Canadians. The protections at the border, while solid, and backed by expert insight, aren't perfect. We'll still see the occasional COVID-19 case come across the border, uncaught.
Still, these concerns can be minimized. For example, the test positivity rate at the border is only 0.19%, meaning the vast majority of travellers are testing negative for COVID.
