4 Awards to Keep an Eye on Next Year

This article was written by Muhammad Faheel Haider, a Ryerson University student.

Looking towards your first ever fall semester is exciting. It’s filled with hope, adventure, and curiosity of the unknown. You’re about to embark on a journey where you will meet your future best friends, discover your passions, and grow as an individual. However, in the midst of all of that – you may have forgotten one really important aspect: financing your education. Scholarships and awards provide extra support and appreciation for students who deserve and need it, and we’ve rounded up 3 awards international students coming to Ryerson University should keep an eye out for.

1. President’s entrance scholarship

First and foremost, we have the President’s Entrance Scholarship. Valued at $40,000, this renewable scholarship is awarded to twelve secondary school graduates who have exhibited academic accomplishment, leadership qualities, original thought, and creative ability. So, if you possess any of these qualities, make sure to give it a shot and fill out an application! A minimum of 90% final admission average, an essay or project summary, leadership activities, and two letters of reference are required in your application.

2. International secondary school merit scholarship

Valued at $5,000 each, the International Secondary School Merit Scholarship is awarded to seven international students entering their first year of a full-time, four-year undergraduate program at the university. This scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership skills, and commitment to volunteer work and extracurricular activities. A minimum of 85%(A) final admission average and a personal statement are required to apply.

3. Geoff Boyes international awards

These are two faculty-specific awards granted to four incoming international students at the Faculty of Science. A retired math professor, Geoff Boyes, gave these awards as parting gifts to the Ryerson community before his passing.

While we’ve listed a few awards as part of our highlight reel, there are many more available to international students throughout their time at Ryerson such as the Salad King Awards, the Scotiabank International Scholarships, and the Western Union Award for International Students. Visit our Scholarships and Awards web page for more information and make sure to reach out to your program advisors for more information on awards specific to your studies.

We hope to welcome you to Ryerson soon!
