 Energize Your Mind and Body at Royal Roads University

While a large part of university is about enriching your mind and gaining knowledge, there's also the opportunity to re-energize your body and mind through recreational activities. At university, you have access to all sorts of resources and facilities on campus from learning, wellness, accessibility, and recreation. So, why not take advantage of everything there is to offer at Royal Roads University (RRU)!

At RRU, there are plenty of ways you can get exercise. Whether you like exercising alone, in a group, with weights, or out in nature, RRU has something for everyone.

Recreation Centre

With the Recreation Centre, you can stay fit while you study. Do you like weightlifting? Are you more of a cardio person? Do you prefer team sports instead? Discover all this and more at the Recreation Centre! You'll find a fully equipped free weight room, more than 30 cardio machines (including treadmills, rowing machines, bikes, and ellipticals), a yoga and fitness studio, and a basketball and badminton court.

Don't worry about any typical membership fees that come with gyms. Membership is free for Royal Road students — all you need is your student ID.

On-campus trails

If you prefer to do your exercise out in nature, then you'll find all the space you need in the trails on campus. You can walk, hike, run, or bike on dozens of forested trails throughout our scenic 260-hectare campus. You'll have the option to choose from trails through old growth forests, Hatley Park Gardens, Olympic Mountains, or Esquimalt Lagoon, enjoying some of Victoria's tallest Douglas fir trees.

You can explore these trails yourself with the help of our trail map (PDF) or you can book some time with the Recreation Centre staff who can take you on three-kilometre or 10-kilometre routes.

Classes and activities

Discover RRU's drop-in fitness and yoga classes. If you're someone who likes to work out alongside others, feeding off each other's energy, and feeling a sense of comradery, then fitness and yoga classes may be for you!

Drop-in fitness and yoga classes are included with membership to the Recreation Centre. So, if you have your Student ID, then you can join these classes for free!

Home workouts

If you'd rather work out from the comfort of your home, then we've got resources to help! You can find classes and tips to keep you fit and healthy even while you're at home. You can follow along with workouts on our YouTube channel or Facebook page. Previous workouts have included:
