You have probably made a budget for your tuition and living costs. But what about those extra things?

Mobile Phone
You most likely have a mobile phone at home, and you’re going to want one in Canada. You’ll need a plan though -these can cost anywhere between $30 and $120 per month, depending on the options you choose.

Eating Out
While your university accommodation (residence) will likely include a meal plan, you should budget for eating out a few times per week -trying new foods is a great way to experience Canadian culture. So what will eating at a restaurant cost you? Anywhere from about $10 at the cheapest, all the way to well over $100, with meals at many student favourites usually being about $15 to $30.

Winter Clothing
In Canada you’ll enjoy four seasons, including winter! If you’ve never experienced winter before, you’ll want to stock up on warm clothing, including a jacket, hat and gloves, as well as some winter boots. This is a lot of stuff, but it doesn’t have to be expensive; you can probably find everything for a few hundred dollars if you look for bargains and discounts.

Entertainment
Movies, sports games, concerts, shows, art galleries -all are options if you’re looking for entertainment in Canada. If you’re looking to save money though, there are great options on your university campus -at the University of Alberta, for instance, all regular-season sports games are free for students, and there many other low-cost or free campus events.

Exploring Canada
Explore Canada! While you’re studying in Canada, take the time to explore and see the beautiful country! If you’re studying in a location close to the Rocky Mountains, like Alberta or British Columbia, you can visit this world-renowned area for as little as $150 for a weekend! There are many other cultural, historical, and natural attractions all across the country.
