When you land at the airport in Canada, it might be your first time visiting the country! It’s a huge step for you — how can you make the most of your time in a new country?

Make Canadian Friends
Join a student club, participate in intramural sports, or meet people in your campus accommodations — making friends with Canadians will give you a local connection. These new friends can give you advice on local food, shopping, and can turn your university connections into lifelong relationships.

Enjoy Winter
It’s no secret — Canada has winter, and Canadians like to make the most of it — so why not you, too?

If you’ve never seen snow before, make a snowman, or jump into the snow and make snow angels!

Winter sports can help make the most of the season — snowboarding, snowshoeing, tobogganing, ice skating, or the Canadian classic, ice hockey. Your university might have a club for that — the University of Alberta, for instance, has a ski/snowboarding club, an outdoors club, and intramural hockey!

Explore Nature
Canada is known worldwide for stunning natural landscapes and breathtaking vistas. Head west to the Rocky Mountains (the University of Alberta is only a few hours away), and see some of the most beautiful sights in the world. Smaller national parks, such as Elk Island, just outside of Edmonton, can offer a taste of nature closer to the city.
