What is Friends Without Borders?

The Friends Without Borders (FWB) program at the University of the Fraser Valley makes meeting people and making friends a breeze — or at least possible, given these difficult times!

Friends Without Borders is a program designed to help you build social and cultural connections with your fellow students. No matter where you're from or what you're studying, you'll find peers looking to build meaningful connections.

Why should you join FWB?

Friends Without Borders runs weekly sessions filled with fun events and activities. Dedicated Staff and Community Leaders plan and host these events, including everything from pub quizzes to movie nights.

But it's not just fun and games — FWB is a place to forge intercultural communication and leadership skills, to connect authentically with students from all over, and to learn about topical subjects raised by community experts. You can access academic or personal support from Community Leaders. You can even become a Community Leader yourself, to help support your fellow students.

But the best part of all, for some, is the chance to earn credits on your Co-Curricular Record at UFV. This kind of extracurricular activity always looks good on a resumé!

What about the pandemic?

Of course, COVID-19 has complicated our world. When people are isolated, it's more important than ever to stay connected. That's why this fall, Friends Without Borders will run entirely online, meaning you can take part no matter where you are in the world!

Online sessions will run Thursdays from 10:00 am to 11:30 am (PST), from September 17 through November 19. More details on the winter semester are still to come.
