Listen to Destination Unboxed: Lakehead’s New Podcast for International Students

As an international student, it can be difficult to get a proper feel for a university when you can’t visit it in person. Virtual information sessions and tours can help you get a better idea about the programs and campus, but how are you supposed to know what the school is like after the recruitment process fades out?

Lakehead University students realized there was an opportunity to help new folks coming in get a better idea of what it’s like to study in Canada by releasing a new podcast called Destination Unboxed.

Destination Unboxed: what is it?

Destination Unboxed offers insights on everything you need to know such as choosing programs, events and clubs, meeting people, living in residence, finding affordable food, and getting the most out of your Lakehead experience.

You may be wondering what a podcast is, or how it can be useful to you. A podcast is an audio file (typically a series) available on streaming services that an audience can listen to and subscribe if they like the content.

The best part about this podcast series is that the episodes are about 30 minutes long, making it easy to listen on your commutes, while you’re cooking, or getting ready in the morning. They even talk about both Lakehead’s Thunder Bay and Orillia campuses.

Meet the hosts of Destination Unboxed

It’s one thing to hear everything about a school from recruiters, but the best way to truly learn is from current international students themselves.

Shindara: A Kinesiology student who began her studies at Lakehead in 2019. She’s originally from Nigeria and is interested in cooking, reading, and binge watching The Office.

Vishwa: An Honours Bachelor of Commerce student, originally from India, who’s been living in Thunder Bay since 2018. She’s in the final year of her program and is graduating this upcoming spring.

Marcela: A 2nd year Business student who moved to Thunder Bay from Mexico in 2021 after studying a year remotely. This is her first year on Lakehead’s campus!

Evan: A graduate of Lakehead’s Honours Bachelor of Commerce program with a major in Finance and minor in Economics. His goal is to help students and alumni share their stories of Lakehead University.
