York International will provide you with support during your studies at York University.

York University offers a variety of resources to help international students reach their academic and professional goals. York International (YI) offers invaluable programs and services for international students.

1. Arriving at York University

It's an exciting experience to study in a new country, and York will help make this transition as smooth as possible. YI has a variety of programs to make you comfortable before school starts; such as Summer Preparation Webinars, International Student Orientation and Get to Know YorkU.

York University is here to support you. So, take advantage of our online and in-person support resources to help make your transition to studying in Canada easier!

2. Health care and wellness

York University is proud to offer our international students a University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP). UHIP is a mandatory basic coverage plan that helps students cover health-related expenses, like doctor’s visits. Additionally, York University has an on-campus walk-in clinic which gives you access to medical care a few steps away from your classes.

York also offers services to help with stress management and mental health for international students. There are a variety of services and resources, such as Student Counselling & Development and the York University Psychology Clinic, which can support your academic and overall personal success.

3. Immigration support

We recognize that the immigration process can sometimes feel overwhelming. YI has prepared resources and tutorial videos to help make immigration related processes much easier for our students. Visit our Immigration Overview to learn more.

Remember that your immigration situation is individual to you. Therefore, it is best if you consult with the Immigration Specialist at York International or the IRCC for immigration inquiries.

4. Financing your education

YI has created tools to help you budget for your education. Depending on the cost of your program tuition and your living arrangements, overall expenses can vary from student to student. To support these costs, York University offers scholarships, bursaries, and awards specifically for international students, like the Tentanda Via Award worth $120,000. This funding can help you offset the costs of your studies and can be obtained based on financial need or special merit.

In addition to scholarships, bursaries, and awards, study permit holders may qualify to work on-campus or off-campus. This is a great opportunity for international students to fund their educations and other expenses that come with living away from home.

5. International student support

York offers programs for international students to adjust to life in Canada. For example, the YI Global Peer Program is an excellent way to connect with upper-year students who will offer support and information about student life at York University.

YI also offers International Student Advising, where advisors can assist you with questions about immigration; such as study permits and permanent residence.
