Break a Sweat at Algonquin College’s New Athletics and Recreation Complex

Your body is a temple, so why not work out in one? Alright, maybe the new Jack Doyle Athletics and Recreation Complex isn’t a temple, but it’s the next best thing. Here’s why we think you’ll love the ARC.

Free weights area

The first floor of this multi-level establishment is home to Ottawa’s first and only official Hammer Strength training facility. The 939 square-metres (10,000 square-foot) free weight area features plate-loaded equipment such as smith presses and incline benches, heavy-duty squat racks, dumbbells, and more all set up on gorgeous Mondo sport flooring.

Turf training zone

Right next to the free weight zone is the turf training area! Here, you can use sleds, tires, ropes, and plyo-boxes to enhance your workout. Get your sweat on by trying some agility and speed drills or joining a multi-station group circuit on the functional cross-training rig.

Climbing and bouldering wall

If you’re looking to challenge yourself, this is for you. Scale our 10-metre (34-foot climbing) wall using auto-belays or go rope-free on the 4.5-metre (15-foot) bouldering wall. Each wall was designed with several different routes, so there’s something for all skill levels here. Think you can conquer them all?

Level 2

Looking for a spot to warm up? The second floor’s got you covered. With a wide range of selectorized weight and Cybex machines (those fun machines with one or more weight stacks and a pulley system), accessible equipment, and even a personal training circuit. So, whether it’s Leg Day or time for cardio, the upper level is your one-stop shop. Is it getting warm in here?

ARC Discovery Track

The 346-metre ARC Discovery Track overlooking the facility is yours to run, walk, or wheel on as you please. With built-in slopes and inclines, your workout just got cranked up a notch.

ARC Varsity Double Gym

Whether you’re watching the game, cheering on our varsity basketball and volleyball teams, or catching a concert when the gym doubles as an event venue; the ARC Varsity Double Gym has it all. Go Wolves!

ARC Recreational Gym

If you love to play sports, this zone is for you. The ARC Recreational Gym is your space to get your game on and play basketball, volleyball, soccer, floor hockey, or to goof around and play bump, HORSE or pickleball. Simply check the schedule for an available timeslot and get your game on throughout the week.

ARC Fitness Studios

Is group fitness more your speed? Look no further. The ARC Fitness Studio allows you to sign up for a group class in one of our two Fitness Studios. One studio is equipped with traditional wood floors perfect for classes like Zumba, circuits, and yoga. The other is decked out with a sport Mondo floor for hard-core classes like spinning, boxing, and kickboxing.

The Wolves Den

Perfect for fuelling up before your workout or catching your breath after a tough one; the Wolves Den Restaurant proudly serves delicious house-made food and refreshing bevies. Whether you’re kicking back in the dining room or getting some fresh air on the patio, the Wolves Den is the place to be. Did we mention it has a full-service bar? Oh, and there’s a games room and bowling alley too!

Get a move on

Give your brain the break it deserves and break a sweat! The ARC is a judgement-free zone to pump some iron, run some laps and move to the beat of your own drum. Whether you’re green to the gym scene or a seasoned pro, this facility has everything you need for the perfect workout. Let off some steam and check it out!
