Accessing Student Services: A Community Impact on Your Health, Wellbeing, and Academics

King's Student Affairs offer a wide variety of support services to help students balance their academics, work, and well-being throughout the year. These services are available across all campuses at Western University and affiliates, as well as remotely online, to help you discover your identity, connect with others, access tools for academic success, and take care of your mind, body, and spirit!

Residence, and overall student affairs in campus life

At an affiliate campus, King's students have the "best of both worlds" where they can access services both at King's and Western campuses. There are extensive resources available for students, staff, and the wider community to bridge gaps and maintain a healthy lifestyle on campus.

For example, practicing mental health and wellness for your mind, body and spirit is crucial, so learning stress prevention and setting boundaries strategies is helpful to navigating a post-COVID world as a student. Students do not need to be in crisis to access support.

Other services are available to connect students to resources within the London community, as well as on campus. These resource hubs include materials and services for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and allies, Indigenous students, and counselling for personal and career, to name a few. Specific supports are also available for mature and transfer students, students new to Canada through King's International, and the King's Campus Ministry for social justice and faith-based initiatives, religious services, and spiritual wellness.

Social programs for the King's and Western communities

King's also has a variety of social programs to help students transition and stay connected on campus with peer-led social supports and activities throughout the year. The King's KAMP New Mentor Student Program pairs first year and incoming students with an academically successful upper year student to connect them with tools and resources. Sophs and Orientation week events at Western and affiliate campuses provide incoming students with the "best university orientation student experience in Canada!"

Other services include Career Connect and Counselling to help students navigate work experience during their studies and after graduation, and the King's Edge Transition Program assists students in transitioning to university life through academics, engagement, and connection. These programs enhance academic learning by bringing our community together through collaboration, accountability, and having fun!

Learning services for academic success

A benefit of an affiliate campus is the extra care with personalized support, and the Accessibility, Counselling, and Student Development Services takes extra care with implementing customized supports for students. Additionally, there is a campus & community social worker on site, and learning Skills Services for students to receive help and develop skills for learning success in their courses.

Taking care of yourself

In addition to accessing these supports, creating small daily habits to take care of yourself will make a huge difference in maintaining your wellbeing and preventing burnout. Some areas that can be improved include eating well and staying hydrated, exercising, sleeping 7-8 hours each night, meditation, and prioritizing tasks every day to keep you on track and organized!

Be proactive and take advantage of these services and opportunities at King's to make the most of your time as a student with an integrated approach to academic success with health and wellness.
