The University of Alberta offers a full-service program to help you self-isolate for 14 days when you reach Canada.

If you're coming to Canada to study this semester, you probably know you'll need to self-quarantine for fourteen days. In the best case scenario, this is likely to be a hassle! Hotels are quite expensive, and won't offer guidance to students new to Canada (beyond directions to the ice machine).

That's why the University of Alberta has created the Isolation Accommodation Program. The program is built from the ground-up to support newcomers to Canada to help you make a smooth transition in a difficult time.

What's included in the isolation accommodation program?

The program has you covered for everything from airport pickup to accommodation, and meals to health services.

Airport pickup

When you arrive at Edmonton International Airport, a University representative will be waiting to pick you up and take you directly to your residence so your self-quarantine can begin.

Accommodations

You'll enjoy a simple, single room with a private restroom, along with linens and garbage collection. There are industrial laundry services available, but you're encouraged to bring two weeks' worth of clothes, just to be safe.

Meal delivery

Three meals a day — plus snacks! — will be delivered to your suite. The meals are made fresh in the residence dining hall, and best of all, include Halal, gluten-free, and vegetarian options!

Personal and health supports

You'll have direct access to medical professionals and other wellbeing supports, even after-hours. University staff will periodically check in on you, too — even every day, if you like.

You'll also be invited to join virtual community-building events so your isolation isn't total! You can even get academic help from faculty in residence if you have questions about the material in your classes.

More key facts about the program

To book a spot in the program, you can sign up via this Google Form. (If for whatever reason you can't access the form, send a PDF version of the application form (pdf) to reslife@ualberta.ca.) Either way, be sure to book at least 5 business days before you arrive!

You can even isolate with family if that's something you want. If you need a hand paying for the program, you can reach out to Student Financial Support at bursaries@ualberta.ca.
