|Description:||The Department of Linguistics at the University of Calgary offers excellent opportunities for graduate studies. It is one of nine departments in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The graduate courses in linguistics provide students with a strong foundational training. The active research of our regular faculty members, which informs their teaching, ranges over the core areas of linguistics - phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and historical linguistics - as well as interdisciplinary fields, such as psycholinguistics and first and second language acquisition. Besides these areas, there are other research opportunities in the language or language group expertise of individual faculty members, including French, Germanic, Hebrew, and Turkic. The department has a good track record in obtaining research grants from national funding agencies, such as the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
