Description: | Become a professional who helps children grow/develop to the best of their ability by understanding their neurodevelopment and their interaction with the world. Learn to understand the world from a child’s perspective. Our program encompasses education and therapeutic skills with an emphasis on the role of technology and mental health in children’s lives. Upon graduation, you will earn an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Studies and a Diploma in Early Childhood Education.
Your first year introduces you to the domains of childhood development and theories and foundations of early childhood. In your second year, you learn the basics of human anatomy and physiology; how to create curriculum; observation and research skills; dynamics of relationships; and how biases impact our interactions with children and families. In your third and fourth years, you learn how to develop curriculum in educational and therapeutic settings. The curriculum includes children with exceptionality, infant and children's mental health, therapeutic play, leadership and interprofessional collaboration. Communication with children and families is a focus for your third year. And your fourth year emphasizes professional skills such as leadership and working collaboratively. You will complete up to 800+ hours (minimum 600 hours) of workplace experience through placements.
