Admission Requirements

Grade for Entrance Previous Year (%)*79
Prerequisites:*These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
The admissions committee expects an academic standing in English of at least 3.3 on a 4-point scale, the equivalent of a B+. We consider the total credits completed and the GPA in English courses, as well as coverage ranging from Old English through contemporary literature and theory, as well as indigenous and post-colonial literatures.

While we look for an Honours BA in English, or its equivalent in number and range of courses, we do not require that degree, especially for students doing interdisciplinary research. The graduate chair is happy to discuss the suitability of applicants' qualifications. If you fall short in total courses or in coverage, you may be interested in registering as a Special Student in Arts to make up undergraduate courses before applying for admission.
    Test Scores:
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 600] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 100] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 7]
    Additional Admission Requirements:
    • Letter(s) of Reference
    • Resume/Curriculum Vitae
A 350-500 word Statement of Program and transcripts are also required.
