Field of Study: | Parks, Recreation and Leisure Studies
|
Description: | Recreation and Leisure Services encompasses the delivery of recreation activities and programs designed to provide leisure experiences which are truly satisfying and rewarding for the participants. As a student in RLSC at Seneca, you’ll benefit from: opportunities for certification (e.g., First Aid/CPR, High Five, PRO Art of Facilitation and assorted workshops), involvement in hands–on community initiatives/partnerships with local Boards of Education, police and nonprofit organizations, municipalities and partnerships with other Seneca programs, Parks and Recreation Ontario (PRO) student membership, an experiential approach that incorporates the natural resources of King Campus (696 wooded acres), a business approach to leisure services, with a focus on accountability in the public sector and the trend toward privatization and entrepreneurial strategies, and an opportunity to apply your learning to recreation projects of interest to you, while simultaneously networking with community–based organizations.
RLSC is a co–operative education program. The co–operative component optimizes the job–readiness of graduates by formally integrating academic study with one term of paid work experience. Students complete a 14–week co–operative work–term.
