Description:There is a growing demand for designers with the flexibility to work in multi-disciplinary environments. The Bachelor of Design degree, one of the most innovative degree programs in North America, was developed in response to this demand. Key areas of this program include Visual Communications Design and Industrial Design. In addition to specialization, students may choose one of the following program routes: Business and Marketing; Engineering; Computing Science; Social Sciences; Printmaking; or the General Route.

The Business and Marketing Route gives you access to expertise in the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Business. Through courses in economics, accounting, marketing and consumer studies students learn how the world of business relates to the discipline of design. As an entrepreneur or employee armed with an understanding of market and consumer behaviours, you will be better able to analyze, interpret and strategize for success. Behind the success of every product, business and industry are designers working on critical aspects—from product concept and development to advertising and packaging.

A successful portfolio is required for admission to this program. Submit your portfolio to the Department of Art and Design by May 1. Assessment may include an interview.
