Description:Journalism has been transformed by digital technologies in the 21st Century, driving change in all levels of the field and forcing practitioners to develop new skills, techniques and approaches. Today's journalists need to fill a diversity of roles, requiring not only a good understanding of emerging social trends, but also specialized expertise and knowledge.

With this program, students will better understand the challenges related to journalism in the digital age and will enter the fast-changing media industries prepared for the task. Upon graduation, students are qualified for an exciting career as a journalist, researcher, presenter, media analyst, producer, social media manager, and more.

Admission Requirements

Joint program with Algonquin College. There are two ways to fulfill the degree requirements. Start by completing 60 credits (four semesters) in the Honours bachelor's degree at the University of Ottawa and then transfer to Algonquin College to complete the journalism diploma or vice versa. Students obtain both an Honours BA and a College Diploma after 4 years.
Test Scores:
  • International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Canadian Academic English Language Assessment [min. 70] or Cambridge English for Speakers of Other Languages: Certificate in Advanced English [min. C1] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 86] or CanTEST [min. 4.5]
