Description | The purpose of this two-semester program is to train graduates to meet the need for translators and interpreters in the medical, legal, education, government and social services fields. Students will acquire and develop communication skills and technical skills necessary in the interpreter and translator professions. Emphasis will be placed on specialized vocabulary building and greater familiarity with the Cree language.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to understand the nature and work of an interpreter/translator, acquire skills specific to the field of interpretation and translation, become familiar with available sources, acquire specialized vocabulary, perform satisfactory interpreting/translating work, improve existing language skills, work with others and give and receive constructive criticism.
