Description | A program of graduate study leading to the M.Sc. degree is offered in the Department of Biology within the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies. The interests of the full-time faculty and adjunct staff members focus on Boreal, Terrestrial and Aquatic Biology. The Department can normally accommodate about 20 students. Facilities are available for field and/or laboratory research in the areas of basic and applied plant/animal ecology and physiology, as well as tree growth and genetics.
Some of the specific areas of research include plant ecology, vegetation studies with emphasis on regeneration strategies of plants, biodiversity and old growth forest dynamics, biology of populations, community, evolutionary, and conservation ecology, systematics, forest tree demography, feminist science and pedagogy, social ecology, food microbiology, environmental microbiology, microbial ecology, plant morphogenesis, plant molecular biology and physiology, avian behaviour, fish and wildlife parasitology, ichthyology, fisheries and wildlife biology, fish endocrinology and physiology, and the biology of water pollution. | | |
