DescriptionThe Food Service Worker program is a one-semester inclusive undertaking that provides you with the knowledge and skills to be an effective member of an interprofessional health care team. The courses in this college certificate program were developed to meet the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care regulations, with input from professional organizations and health care employers, and meet current government standards and industry requirements.

Through the incorporation of lectures and practical experiences that take place two days per week to accommodate your existing commitments and work schedule, you learn:

  • Quantity food preparation
  • Meal service
  • Basic therapeutic diets and nutrition
  • Proper sanitation and safety practices
  • Effective communication
  • Quality customer service

To round out the training in this School of Community and Health Studies program, you participate in an arranged work experience field placement in a health care facility. This aspect of the Food Service Worker program presents you with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience that applies classroom learning in real-world work situations.
