Description | A facilities technician controls and troubleshoots building systems operations. This includes the ability to perform preventive maintenance, operate, monitor and perform routine maintenance on control systems and instrumentation, air-conditioning and ventilation systems, air compressors, chillers and refrigeration systems, water treatment systems, heating systems, pumps and pumping systems and low-pressure boilers. The technician also conducts, inspects, tests, verifies; emergency power and lighting systems, fire suppression and sprinkler systems. Technicians operate electrical systems, perform routine maintenance on fume hoods, inspect and monitor plumbing systems and monitor and analyze utility consumption.
Students must be working in the field to enter the program. Students attend three levels of 240 hours each of in-class sessions. Approximately 75 per cent of class time is spent in theory and 25 per cent learning practical, hands-on skills in the College`s shops. | | |
