The Capilano Students' Union maintains an online list of available housing in the Metro Vancouver area. The list is accessible on the Students' Union web site (http://csu.bc.ca/housing/). Listings are automatically deleted two weeks after the date they are posted. For more information about the housing list or other CSU services please call the desk at 604-984-4969, or email studentemployee@csu.bc.ca.

At the beginning of each term, there are orientations, workshops, and information sessions.

Career Planning

The Counselling Department assists students considering career options by providing information and reference materials on a wide variety of occupations. The Career Resource Centre has self help books, calendars, and brochures from various educational institutions, copies of past and current course outlines, and a computer to allow students to find career and occupational information on the Internet.

Sports

Sports facilities available to Capilano University include the Sportsplex and Fitness Centre. Intercollegiately, Capilano Blues teams compete throughout the province of British Columbia each year. Our many exceptional athletes, working with the experienced Blues' coaching staff and managers, have combined to produce both provincial and national championship teams. For athletes seeking information about their sports status, contact the Athletic Director, Joe Iacobellis, at jiacobel@capcollege.bc.ca.

Activities

The department offers an expanding intramural program, utilizing the University's Sportsplex facility and the Weight Training Centre, together with recreation and fitness programs, which are available during fall and spring terms. Some examples of the scheduled activities are co-ed volleyball, basketball, indoor soccer, yoga, badminton, aerobics, Tae Kwon Do, rowing, weight training, and many more.

Clubs

There are many clubs on campus, for example, International, Ski, Ski-boarding, Mountain Bike, Women’s, Gay/Lesbian, Chess, Book and many more. See the Web site for more information.

Information Technology

A library and several computer labs are available to all students. The Computer Learning Centre provides instructional services to students in a microcomputer lab setting. These services include an introduction to word processing, setting up of e-mail accounts, solutions to hardware and software problems, and general information about computing resources.

Cultural

Cultural facilities include the art gallery and the theatre where local, national, and international artists perform regularly.

Special Services

The Capilano University Childcare Centre provides both full-time and part-time care for children ages three to five. Full-time care is available for infants and toddlers. Applications may be submitted at any time, priority is given to Capilano University students' children. Disability Support Services provides a variety of services including transition and educational planning, registration assistance, taped texts, interpreting services, note takers and scribes, and exam invigilation.

International Involvement

Capilano University is strongly committed to international education and plays an active role in the development of international projects, some of which are unique to Canada. The McRae Institute of International Management offers the Asia Pacific Management Cooperative program and the Latin America Management program. These programs offer training to Canadians who are considering international careers. These two year graduate diploma programs bring Canadian employers together with students and the University to form a unique blend of academic training and work placement in Asian and Latin American countries, and in international Canadian organizations. Capilano University actively promotes student and faculty exchanges with colleges, universities, and other agencies outside Canada. The faculties have taken part in exchanges or professional development activities in Japan, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Australia, England, France, and Italy. The University has several formal faculty exchange relationships as well as several annual student exchanges with overseas' colleges and universities. As part of its International Student Advising and Counselling Services, the University offers a variety of programs for international students working toward an undergraduate degree or diploma. In addition, short term, non-credit English language programs offer students an opportunity to increase their proficiency and confidence in conversational English and their understanding of Canadian society and culture. Language programs can be designed to meet the needs of business and industry, as well in areas such as early childhood care and education, tourism, environmental management, and business administration.
