Philosophy at the University of Toronto Scarborough

In our philosophy program, we keep our class sizes small and make philosophical issues come to life. You’ll get to know award-winning faculty members in a tight-knit department, and our passionate teachers bring their cutting-edge, internationally known research to their courses. Our focus is on developing your skills for evidence-based and reasoned argument and debate. Every course shares the goal of teaching you:

  • How to think critically and analytically about difficult questions that cannot be studied experimentally.
  • How to construct and assess arguments.
  • How to write clear and incisive essays.

We cover philosophical theories and teach you to use intellectual techniques such as sophisticated reading, reasoning and logic, modelling and clear writing. You’ll explore the ideas that underlie controversial issues in politics, morality, science, religion, art and more.
