The Associate of Science degree is a two-year undergraduate program offered by many institutions in the province of British Columbia and beyond. The Associate Degree program is designed to provide broad-based knowledge and experiences which lay a foundation for further undergraduate study or entry to the workforce.

What you will learn

Students within the Associate of Science (Computer Science) Degree program will gain knowledge in programming, data structures, and computer architecture, and will develop their critical thinking and analytical skills. Students will also complete mathematics and lab science courses to further their numerical and lab skills.

Program Structure

The Associate of Science (Computer Science) Degree is a foundational degree consisting of 60 credits in total, typically completed over a two-year period. Program requirements include a minimum of 21 credits in Computer Science.

Upon completion of the Associate of Science (Computer Science) Degree program, students may choose to enter the workforce or continue their undergraduate studies.

Upon completion of the Associate of Science (Computer Science) Degree program, students may choose to enter the workforce or to continue their undergraduate studies.

Transfer to 2nd/3rd Year at a University

An Associate of Science (Computer Science) Degree may be transferable to the third year of a four-year bachelor’s degree program at a university.

Some BC universities also admit Associate Degree graduates at a reduced GPA requirement. For more information on the option of transferring to a university upon completion of an Associate of Science (Computer Science) Degree, please consult the BC Transfer Guide or see an Academic Advisor.

Enter the Workforce

International students completing the Associate of of Science (Computer Science) Degree program at Alexander College are also eligible to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit.

Program Requirements

The Associate of Science (Computer Science) degree program consists of the following course requirements, which must be completed with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater.

  1. 6 credits in first-year English
  2. 6 credits in Mathematics, including:
    • One of: MATH 104, MATH 151
    • One of: MATH 105, MATH 152
  3. 36 credits in Science, including:
    • All of: CPSC 111, CPSC 112, CPSC 150
    • One of: CPSC 115, MATH 115
    • At least 18 credits in second-year science, taken in two or more subject areas, including:
    • All of: CPSC 215, CPSC 225, CPSC 250
  4. 6 credits in Arts, other than English (excluding Mathematics and Laboratory-based Science courses)
  5. 6 credits in Arts, Science, or other areas
