Program Overview

If you’ve got a passion for golf and a head for business, this program will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to tee off into the career of your dreams.

Learning from industry pros, students gain hands-on experience with the latest golf technology, software and equipment in our world-class, newly renovated Golf Lab facility, and receive golf coaching, club fitting and swing analysis from our team of PGA of Canada members. Our program also includes two six-month paid field experiences.

In our program, you will learn from leaders in the golf industry who are keen to share their knowledge and skill to educate and inspire you. Our program is taught by recognized professionals, including Bob Beauchemin – former PGA touring pro, former Canadian Tour Commissioner and National Post top 50 golf instructor in Canada. Our advisory committee is comprised of top golf industry professionals who review our program to keep it on the cutting edge.

This program is a recognized PGA of Canada program. As part of being a recognized partner program, students have the opportunity for equivalency credits towards a Class “A” status with the PGA of Canada.

Note: There is no golf skill level requirement to be admitted into the program.

Work-Integrated Learning  

Our program runs annually on a 6-month in-class/6-month paid field experience schedule - the only one of this kind in Canada. Your ability to work two 6-month paid work terms will make you an asset among employers who are seeking talented professional golf managers. Field experience adds to the knowledge and skills you develop in the classroom.

Regardless of your level of golf ability, we will help you lower your handicap and improve your golf skills. We have developed an extensive Player Development Program for our students, which is delivered in our on-campus world-class golf lab facility.

Student Experience

In Canada there are more than 2,500 golf facilities that create over 300,000 jobs and contributed $14.3 billion to Canada’s Gross Domestic Product in 2014 (NAGA 2014 Economic Impact Study of Golf in Canada).

Go Abroad

Students in this program may be eligible for a credit through Summer Abroad in Croatia, Denmark, Finland, India, Japan, New Zealand, Peru or Vietnam.

Students have the opportunity to complete program work placements in Canada or abroad. Students may also be eligible to receive a bursary from Humber.

Your Career

Upon graduation, your deep understanding of both the sport and the business side of the game will allow you to pursue a variety of roles in this $18-billion Canadian industry including:

  • equipment, clothing and merchandise sales representative
  • golf course or facility manager
  • golf equipment or apparel manufacturing
  • golf equipment sales and custom fitting
  • golf shop retail manager
  • marketing and sales 
  • teaching and training professional
  • tournament and special events co-ordinator

We are conveniently located close to many of Canada’s top golf course facilities including Glen Abbey Golf Club, The National Golf Club of Canada, and St. George’s Golf and Country Club. These top facilities, along with many others across Canada, will seek your expertise and provide you with excellent employment opportunities. Employers of this program include more than 800 Ontario golf facilities.

Professional Accreditations & Recognition

PGA of Canada

The program is recognized by PGA of Canada as an Approved Partner Program. Qualified graduates have the opportunity to earn Class A status with PGA of Canada.

How To Become An Apprentice

Becoming an Apprentice

Find an employer willing to sponsor you as an apprentice.

Contact the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development to register as an apprentice.

Work with your employer approximately one year before attending Humber.

If you’re in high school – grade 11 or 12 – you can earn co-op education credits through work placements in some skilled trades.

Domestic Students

Applications to Humber are made through ontariocolleges.ca. Be sure to submit your application by the equal consideration deadline of February 1. You may apply after February 1, however, post-February 1 applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis depending on the availability of the space in the program.

Admission selection is based on the academic criteria indicated. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission.

Admission selection is based on the following three requirements:

  • Academic

    To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

    • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses: 
      • Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent) 
      • Grade 12 Mathematics (MAP4C, MCT4C, MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U) or Grade 11 M or U Mathematics (MCF3M or MCR3U) 
      • Two Grade 11 or Grade 12 C,M or U courses in addition to those listed above

    or

    or

    Mature Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet all listed course requirements.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or attended postsecondary studies, and will be 21 or older as of the first day of classes. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U/M level or equivalent.

    College Transfer Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. Applicants must have an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 65 per cent in the program. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

    University Transfer Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a university transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a university-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or university courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a university transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a university-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or university courses and grades to determine program eligibility. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

  • English Language Proficiency

    All applicants whose first language is not English must meet Humber’s English Language Proficiency Policy.

  • International Credit Evaluation

    Canadian citizens or permanent residents with international education are required to provide a credential evaluation. Note, for international High school education course by course evaluations, ICAS must be used. For international post-secondary education, a WES evaluation must be provided. In situations where you expect to apply for transfer credit, it is recommended that a course by course WES evaluation is completed.
