Linguistics (M.A.)

Program Description

The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Linguistics (Thesis) offered by the Department of Linguistics in the Faculty of Arts is a research-intensive program that emphasizes rigorous and comprehensive learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in literature review, original thinking, and academic writing to either continue their studies or pursue professional opportunities.

  • The program provides training in the fundamentals of theoretical and experimental linguistics;

  • Students benefit from access to a rich research landscape in cognitive science since many Faculty members associated with the Centre for Research on Brain, Language and Music (CRBLM) and Mila - Quebec AI Institute;
  • The Department has several labs for conducting research including rooms for elicitation, running experiments including in sound booths and with an eye-tracker in addition to access to high performance computing infrastructure.

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
