Master of Public Policy

The program is designed to train students for effective leadership in local, provincial, and national government, as well as the private and nonprofit sectors.

Our students work closely with each other, with faculty experts, and with policy organizations to learn to create and implement meaningful public policy. The program combines a solid interdisciplinary academic foundation in political science, economics, and methods, with practical application to a wide range of public policy issues. Through co-op job placements and joint projects undertaken with external policy agencies, our MPP students gain professional skills and networks in addition to rigorous academic training. Our graduates are experts at scrutinizing a problem, analyzing relevant data, and evaluating alternative paths of action, and go on to tackle society’s most challenging issues, including climate change, inequality, poverty, housing, social inequity, and global governance.

The MPP community is diverse and supportive, and is small by design, with about 35 students entering each year. Our size and approach allow students to receive tailored, one-on-one support in the classroom, their research projects and Capstones, and in navigating the job market. Our students and alumni are resources for each other and form a dynamic and collaborative network encompassing key policy agencies across Canada and beyond.
